Galena's Best Restaurants

Galena has a variety of restaurants from which to choose including fine dining, Asian cuisine, supper clubs, burger hangouts, Mexican, Italian, microbrewies, casual spots, and pizza joints. This list is far from all-inclusive but gives you many of the area's top places to enjoy.

Top Downtown Restaurants

Fried Green Tomatoes: Specializing in Italian cuisine, Fried Green Tomatoes is a top choice for foodies. The décor is both warm and charming with much exposed brick. The menu features our favorite, the mile-high meatloaf, but also filet mignon, veal parmesan and of course, fried green tomatoes. Their emphasis is on locally sourced ingredients.

Fritz and Frites: This elevated bistro combines French and German cuisine in a chic but fun atmosphere. The menu features escargot, schnitzel, poulet roti, sauerbraten and steak frites. Fritz and Frites offers an extensive wine list to perfectly pair with your meal.

Bread & Vine: This cute wine, pastry and sandwich shop offers some of the best desserts in Galena but also some innovative sandwiches and flat bread pizzas. We love their desserts, especially the rich chocolate cake, eclairs and macarons (they offer a wide variety to please all palettes). On the savory side, the pork belly tacos and wagyu beef sliders are yummy. You can wash these down with a craft cocktail or one of the many wines in stock.

Otto’s Place: While few of our guests are looking for breakfast, we love the yummy lunch food you can get at Otto’s Place. Just a few blocks from Aldrich Guest House, Otto’s is one of our favorite haunts in Galena.

Little Tokyo: Located in the heart of Galena, Little Tokyo is one of downtown’s best-kept secrets. With a focus on sushi, tempura and other Japanese dishes, Little Tokyo brings some culinary diversity to the dining faithful.

Popular Options

Vinny Vanucchi’s: This Italian restaurant is a huge local favorite. They are a classic red sauce Italian restaurant with spaghetti and meatballs, chicken Parmesan, lasagna, manicotti, and the like. The cozy Italian atmosphere and friendly vibe make Vinny Vanucchi’s a must stop for families and large groups.

Durty Gurt’s Burger Joynt: For casual fare, you can’t beat Durty Gurt’s Burger Joynt. This burger hot-spot offers a variety of burgers, fries, and milkshakes. A local favorite is the “Gurtzilla,” a massive burger topped with bacon, cheese, and onion rings.

Log Cabin Steakhouse: As the name suggests, the Log Cabin is where locals go when craving a steak. They offer a variety of cuts, including filet mignon, ribeye, and New York strip. But all is not lost for those wanting seafood or vegetarian options, the Log Cabin can do those as well.

Galena Brewing Company: Who doesn’t love craft beer? For a frosty cold one, we would recommend the Galena Brewing Company. While sampling the local specialities, you can also pick-up some pub-style fare such as burgers, sandwiches, and pizza.

Top Area Restaurants

Swagat: While we prefer to keep you in downtown Galena, it’s hard not to recommend Swagat. New to Dubuque in 2025, Swagat has quickly become a foodie top-choice since it opened in February. They specialize in classic Indian cuisine with warm spices, exotic fare and a beautiful atmosphere.

Edge by Goldmoor Inn: Rated #1 on TripAdvisor for dining in Galena, Edge by Goldmoor is the place diners go if they are seeking a more elevated dining experience and want to enjoy the Galena countryside. With dishes like fois gras crème brulee, domestic elk chops and beef wellington, Edge aspires to excite your taste buds.

Brazen: While Brazen is often regarded as one of Dubuque’s top restaurants, we like to dine here for their delicious wood-fired pizzas. With made-from-scratch crust, tangy sauce and elevated toppings, this pie will keep you coming back time after time.

Timmerman’s Supper Club: For those longing for the classic supper club experience, Timmerman’s is the place to go. With some beautiful views, cool architecture, and classic dishes, Timmerman’s will have you thinking you headed north and are dining in Wisconsin.
